In a field! Simple sky, simple image. That’s all the went through my head. The rest was a scouting mission which will be on the cards in the coming months.

After over six years exploring what the island really has to offer, you get to know where and when to find things. Discovering places and the animals within them, you can return year after year and almost guarantee you’ll be greeted with the some spring joy. You can find these lambs along the track next to Le Guet.

Normally the misty sea spray is my worst enemy when it comes to photography. This was an exception.

The final burst of light before the sun dipped below the clouds behind me. I loved the contrast between the dunes, the grasses and the darkening sky.

An unlucky 13th day in more ways than I want to remember but I did get some gorgeous light first thing. Couldn’t be bothered to battle the wind and this is a great place to fall back on time and time again.

Rocquaine under a heavy and angry sky. Pretty much non stop like this for the last few day but this just adds to the excitement of being out hunting down an image.

Really spoilt for choice with shots today. Port Soif had some amazing swell this morning, rainbows at lunch and this stunning golden light after work. The wind was blowing at least 45-50mph, sand blowing in my face (a tripod was out of the question) and even had sand between my teeth. I like to make things hard for myself but the rewards are so worth the battles.

Driving around in the rain trying to find this exact field which I stumbled upon a few years ago. Had no recollection of where it was, all I knew is it was somewhere near Fort Grey and up one of the numerous little windy lanes creeping up the hill.

It’s taken me my whole life and a lot of head scratching to finally see the dogs face in the rocks. The lion, I can only assume it’s facing the other way and resembles a sitting lion.

After seeing Lucy’s pictures from down here at the weekend, I had to check it out myself. At first they were a long way off in the ad field opposite but a lovely lady came out with a bag of food and 10 ducklings came running over. We had a chat and she watched for cars as I laid down in the road to grab some shots. The sun even came out for a few minutes to give a nice warm glow.

I’ve shot this angle a few times before over the years but they’ve always been missing something. After an hour of patience, the sun rose over the castle to give that little extra lift I think it needed.

Bitterly cold again, made a schoolboy error of leaving my gloves in the car. Still, the walk back up got the blood pumping. I had hoped the sun would light up the pier but it rises too far north now. Probably should have tried this in the winter but this pier is only exposed when the tide is below 3.5m so it can only be done early a few days every couple weeks.

In my 36 years of existence, I’v never seen one of these beetles. I was informed by a very helpful guy from ‘The Pollinator Project’, who was passing by as I was taking photos, that these are now very rare insects and encouraged me to record the finding. Apparently once their eggs hatch, they wait on plants to hitch a ride on bees who then take them back their nest where the larva feed on the bees eggs and emerge the next spring!

I had no intention of finding ormers, it was just such a nice day with a 0.6m low tide to explore. I did want to find some starfish but only found a few small live crabs. I did find a huge chancre crab but it had passed on into crab heaven.
