HARBOUR CARNIVAL

15.06.18

Trying out some new locations for the Harbour Carnival fireworks display which seemed to work ok.  I always favour an elevated perspective and try to incorporate the surrounding areas into the scene.  Quite a few merry folk joined me to watch :)

RED ADMIRAL

14.06.18

Red Admiral looking a bit lost on the ground after an entire acre of a local nature reserve had been completely cleared of vegetation.  I know someone has to manage the land but this same field wasn't cleared till late September last year.  A simple mowed path would have been enough!  Rant over.

HAZY DAZE

13.06.18

Up at the crack of dawn again down on the Careening Hard on a perfectly still hazy morning.  Very difficult to get the white balance correct on this with the cool blue/green from the water, and warmer orange/purple clouds above.

GREEN LIZARD

12.06.18

Same time, same place, I appoached with a but more caution than yesterday eventually getting a few shots before it scurried off into the bushes.

Not a sharp image but I was quite pleased I managed to at least record a sighting.

COMMON BLUE

11.06.18

Headed out in search of these 'Green Lizards' I keep reading about.  I did find one but I stupidly managed to scare it away before I managed to get a picture.  The one I clocked was about the size of a water dragon and very, very green.  Frustrating but there were plenty of Common Blues floating around.

SEAFRONT SUNDAY

10.06.18

Out of all the Seafront Sunday's held over the summer, the arts one is definitely our favourite.  So much more entertaining for the kids and you even get to meet an alien in the Vale Earth Fair tent!

BORDEAUX RAIN

09.06.18

The heavens were open but a small window of opportunity was appearing towards the north of Herm.  Hid myself under an umbrella and went for something easy. Impressive rainbow to the west shortly after sunrise which was nice to see.

ROCQUAINE BAY

07.06.18

The sunset that didn't quite happen!  There was a brief splash of colour appearing in the sky but that faded away pretty quickly.  Turned my attention to aonther well known feature of Rocquaine, the fishing boats.

BURNET MOTH LARVA

06.06.18

Went hunting for insects around Port Soif nature trail and noticed loads of caterpillars.  Quick Google search revealed the larva of a Five-Spot Burnet Moth.

FOXGLOVE

05.06.18

This foxglove caught my eye with its almost ornamental siting against the rock and the fern.  Turns out the Old English name derived from a myth that foxes would magically wear the flowers on their paws whilst they made stealthy raids on the rural communities!

CATS LADDER

04.06.18

Prowling the streets of St Peter Port like a cat under the cover of darkness.  Pretty quiet on the roads, had to wait over half hour for two car trails to merge together!  Yes, I could have merged two together but that would be too easy.

ALBIE

03.06.18

Spent our Sunday afternoon celebrating Daniel's 5th and Albie's 2nd birthday with the family.  As always a great spread by Michelle (you feed us well)!

BEAUTY AND THE EAST

02.06.18

Rousse harbour pre sunrise this morning.  A slight breeze in the air making the low water mark silky smooth.  One obvious reflective image had to be caught!

MOULIN HUET VALLEY

01.06.18

Another misty and murky start to the first day of June although it was still very warm.  Looking back down the valley towards the beach, it almost felt as if I was in the middle of a tropical jungle!

MR WIGGLES

31.05.18

We saved a hedgehog from the road, checked him over and sent him on his way at L'Ancresse common.  Focus is a little on the soft side but I liked the composition.

The kids agreed to call him Mr Wiggles because his nose was wiggling.

LAND & SEA

30.05.18

Something I've shot a fair few times this year, more recently during the snow storms.  I'm always revisiting and reworking at different times of the year, hoping the 'perfect' conditions will fall into place.

MISTY MOISTY MORNING

29.05.18

The ageing Japanese Pavillion at Saumarez Park.  Quite extreme editing from my part, trying to emphasize the misty mood with a cooler atmospheric style.

SOUTHERN SUN

28.05.18

Dragged my butt out of bed shortly after 04:15 only to have to wait over nearly 90 minutes for the sun to pop up over the clouds.  Coffee in hand I just sat down and admired the views.

COLOURS OF BORDEAUX

27.05.18

Perfect way to relax on a Sunday evening, soaking up the last of the last of the sun and taking in the stunning views across the channel.
